Star Wars: Anakin Skywalker star Hayden Christensen advises Kelly Marie Tran
Hayden Christensen, the actor behind noted sand-hater Anakin Skywalker, has given some pearls of wisdom to fellow Star Wars star Kelly Marie Tran.
Tran has been the victim of relentless racist and sexist abuse since landing the role of Rose Tico in last year’s The Last Jedi, and has stepped back from social media as a result.
While Christensen obviously has no first-hand experience of being on the receiving end of misogyny or racism, he is no stranger to facing the venom of fans: back in the day he was lambasted for his performances in the prequel trilogy, although the fan consensus seems to have softened in recent years.
Asked about the hate received by Tran, he told ET Canada: “I don’t know if I have any advice for that, but just, you know, don’t take it too seriously, because… unfortunately, [bullies] are the ones that make the most noise.
“But the majority of people don’t feel that way, so, keep that in mind.”
Tran is among the stars returning to a galaxy far, far away for Episode 9 of the Star Wars saga, ostensibly the final chapter in the so-called Skywalker story. Makes sense, given that Mark Hamill’s Luke kicked the bucket at the end of Last Jedi.
Joining Tran will be, once again, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o and Domhnall Gleeson.
Hamill is also back, presumably in Force Ghost form, alongside Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels.
Carrie Fisher’s Leia will be seen one final time, courtesy of unused footage from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
Filming is underway right now, with the likes of Matt Smith, Keri Russell and Dominic Monaghan all recently confirmed to have joined the cast list.
Star Wars: Episode 9 is out in December 2019.
