Hollyoaks: Jennifer Metcalfe teases Mercedes McQueen chaos as she becomes pub landlady
Hollyoaks’ iconic pub The Dog in the Pond has a new landlady: Mercedes McQueen.
One of the soap’s most popular characters is set to take up ownership of the venue after the Nightingales vacated amid financial difficulties.
“She’s always wanted to be a landlady, it’s her dream job,” Jennifer Metcalfe said.
“She feels so powerful, and it means so much that it’s in village she was brought up in.”
Asked how the McQueens will run the place, she said: “Completely different! They’re just going to make up their own rules as they go along.
“They want to make The Dog a proper good night out for their customers, and a McQueen night out is wild! It’s definitely not what Marnie would have wanted.”
Mercedes’ return to the show after a year-long break has thus far included a wild hen party in Magaluf and accusations from husband-to-be Russ that she is a serial killer, and there’s clearly plenty more to come.
The Nightingales’ departure from the pub has coincided with the departure of Ellie (Sophie Porley), who left the village for good with close friend Holly (Amanda Clapham).
Hollyoaks continues weekdays at 6:30pm on Channel 4 and 7pm on E4.
