Taylor Swift’s Look What You Made Me Do is now thought to be pacing to a first-week figure slightly smaller than her last lead single; 2014’s Shake It Off.
That said, the new Jack Antonoff-produced track is still looking at an enormous first-week tally, wth Billboard suggesting it reached 200,000 by the end of Friday – meaning its opening week should be around the 500,000 mark.
For contrast, Shake It Off managed 544,000 in its opening seven days.
Still, there’s every possibility Look What You Made Me Do could catch or even surpass it, given that the much-discussed music video is set to debut at the MTV VMAs tonight.
If that generates enough conversation – and it seems fairly certain that it will generate conversation – then the attention could convert nicely to added sales.
The song is the first cut from Taylor’s upcoming album Reputation, due November 10.
